CJ and I got into a real, honest talk about creativity — where it comes from, how you keep it alive, and how it shows up in different forms.
We talked about improv and that spontaneous “figure it out together” energy, and how that same mindset carries into music and performing. We also dug into teaching art, especially how different age groups need totally different approaches — and how the real key is trust. If kids don’t feel safe, they won’t take risks, and if they won’t take risks, they won’t grow.

A big theme was rediscovering the fun. For CJ, chalk art became this way to fall back in love with making stuff again, without overthinking it. We also talked about knowing when to end a project at the right moment — leaving on a high note instead of dragging it until it dies.
And underneath all of it was this idea: you’ve gotta keep showing up. Try new things, let your mediums evolve, lean on mentors when you can, and stay okay with the fact that some of the best art is temporary. That impermanence is part of what makes it meaningful.
