In this episode, our guest "Buba" talks about his experience of going through the ceremony of "Vision Quest" at a "shamanic", masculine retreat in Ecuador.
In the ancient cultures of South American tribes (and not only, actually all over the world) vision quests were designed for young boys to transition into masculinity. Leave the childish stuff behind you and move on to becoming a man.
A boy would be prepared by the man of the tribe for many of his “boyish” years for this “final exam”. The boy would be send to the bush without any food or any water and asked to survive, find his vision, find his animal spirit and then come back when he’s ready to stand among men. The whole tribe would celebrate the return of the new men.
