The Roman festival of Lupercalia, comprised of sacrificed animals and bloody strips of fertility-imparting sympathetic magic, is often painted as Satanic by contemporary society. But satanic forces are opposed to the natural order and the entire point of Lupercalia was to ensure the natural order of childbirth and bountiful harvests continued. Lupercalia was also not merely one of many Roman cleansing and fertility festivals, but one of many global celebrations of the same sort. Purification of the home, community and body laid the foundation for a fresh start, success and family.
