On June 21st, 2025, the United States launched a series of air strikes on Iranian installations allegedly containing facilities and equipment designed for building weapons grade nuclear material. The strikes follow a series of missile exchanges between Tel Aviv and Tehran over the past few weeks, which again follow a long standing series of proxy wars, sabotage and assassinations going back decades between Israel and Iran. Apart from economic sanctions, however, the direct military bombardment of Iran by the United States as a proxy for Israel is new, and raises alarms not only on the side already critical of the Trump Administration, but also within his own party and broader constituency.
