The Houston Texans added another offensive lineman to the roster, signing Evan Brown, but what does this move really mean for Houston heading into the NFL Draft?
On today’s episode of Locked On Texans, we break down Brown’s true value to the Texans offensive line. Brown has logged a ton of snaps at left guard and center, giving Houston flexibility in the trenches. He’s not a Pro Bowl player, but he’s been solid, reliable, and part of several strong rushing attacks throughout his career. You could even call him a mercenary for productive run games.
Brown moves his feet well in 1-on-1 blocking situations, but there are still things to clean up — including penalties (13 over the last three seasons) and a slower get-off at the snap. Still, his versatility could be exactly what GM Nick Caserio wants as the Texans continue building their offensive line.
We also break down the Texans’ first week of NFL free agency and why we’re giving Houston a solid B grade. The Texans didn’t land a lot of flashy difference-makers, but Caserio locked in team-friendly contracts that protect the salary cap and keep the roster flexible.
