William Schmidt was the headline Sunday — and if that version of the sophomore right-hander is here to stay, it changes the trajectory of this LSU team.
We recap LSU’s 2-0 win over Dartmouth, highlighted by Schmidt’s dominant 7.1 shutout innings. He retired the first 12 hitters he faced, allowed just four ground-ball singles, walked none and struck out nine on 95 pitches. It was the best linescore of his career — and the stuff matched it.
But while the pitching continues to shine (back-to-back Sunday shutouts for the staff), the offense was another story.
Aside from Jake Brown’s solo homer and RBI double, the Tigers were largely silent — finishing 4-for-30 at the plate and 1-for-11 with runners on. After Brown’s first-inning blast, LSU managed just one hit over its next 21 plate appearances. We discuss whether that’s early-season inconsistency or something worth monitoring.
