The Lipsey Masterclass
Even without All-American Joshua Jefferson (ankle), the Cyclones operated with surgical precision. Tamin Lipsey was the best player on the floor, period. His line—26 points and 10 assists—doesn't even capture the way he manipulated Kentucky's defense. Whether he was hitting step-back threes to open the second half or threading needles in transition, Lipsey was the engine of a Cyclone offense that refused to let up.
Complementing him was Milan Momcilovic, who proved exactly why he’s one of the most lethal shooters in the country. His 20 points stretched the floor and forced Kentucky’s bigs into uncomfortable space, effectively neutralizing the Wildcats' height advantage.
Defensive Asphyxiation
Kentucky actually led 20–9 early, but T.J. Otzelberger’s "suffocate-and-destroy" defensive scheme eventually took hold. The Cyclones forced 20 turnovers, turning the Enterprise Center into a house of horrors for Otega Oweh and Denzel Aberdeen. Once the Iowa State pressure ramped up, the Wildcats looked rattled, settling for contested perimeter looks while the Cyclones converted every mistake into points at the other end.
By the ten-minute mark of the second half, the game was over. Kentucky was gassed, and the "New Big 12 Order" was on full display. Iowa State is heading to Chicago for their eighth Sweet 16, and they’re doing it with a swagger that says they don't care who’s in the starting five—they're coming for the trophy.
