The murder of Patrolman Masterson started out a a commonplace peak-easy stick-up in which a police officer and a girl were wounded, at 2 :55am on the morning of January 31st, 1927, in New York City. Masterson died on the evening of the same and was buried with full departmental honors three days later. But it was anything but commonplace.
