Dr. Lessa Phillips is Professor Emeritus and past Chair of the University of Mississippi Medical Center Department of Family Medicine. Dr. Phillips earned her medical degree in 1973 at Tulane University School of Medicine and then completed an her family medicine residency at UMMC in Jackson, MS. She then went on and became the first woman chosen to head a department at the UMMC School of Medicine, serving as the Chair of the Department of Family Medicine for 19 years.
