About this episode
The sad news that CBS was ending CBS News Radio in May has sent reverberations across the broadcast industry.  A fellow Old Time Radio collector pointed me to this 55-minute CBS news special Farewell to Studio Nine, commemorating the closing of perhaps the most famous radio news studio in all of broadcasting, at least up to that time.It was also the final time that the voice of Edward R. Murrow would be heard on CBS.  Murrow was ill from lung cancer, but insisted on being on the broadcast to recall war stories along with the CBS News correspondents he had hired, who had become famous, along with him. Murrow participated via a radio circuit near his home and had not lost his sense of humor. The broadcast anchored by Robert Trout also featured Eric Sevareid, William L Shire, H.V. Kaltenborn, among others.  Here's a link to a CBS Press Release touting their new automated broadcast center and the vacating of Studio Nine.
