About this episode
Feliks Banel's guest on this BONUS EPISODE of CASCADE OF HISTORY is Scott Sistek, CASCADE OF HISTORY's official meteorologist - as well as the man behind the Emerald City Weather Blog.
We spoke with Scott Sistek late on the evening of Friday, March 13, 2026 in order to create an "instant history" of the "Friday the 13th" snowstorm that struck much of the Puget Sound region earlier in the day.
March snow is rare in Seattle and environs, so Scott tells us what happened and why - with an eye to documenting what happened so that future historians might better understand a particular moment in local meteorological history. We also covered the windstorm that took place earlier in the week, and looked ahead to a "heatdome: forecast for California and the American Southwest, and what impact it might have on the Pacific Northwest.
