In this conversation with Carnegie New Leader Shreya Wadhwa, Dr. Robert Klitzman, program director of the Master of Science in bioethics at Columbia University, focuses on the history of and role of patient consent in clinical trials, a topic he has explored thoroughly in his publications and books. Dr. Klitzman is also a professor of psychiatry at the Columbia's College of Physicians and Surgeons and the Joseph Mailman School of Public Health. He co-founded and for five years co-directed the Columbia University Center for Bioethics, and directed the Ethics and Policy Core of the HIV Center for 10 years.
